the house
The house lies in the core of the old village of Zejtun and started life as a farmhouse. In the morning you will hear the cockerels and chickens wake-up call and sometimes in the late afternoon the goats who live next door will start bleating. Pigeon fancying is a popular hobby in Zejtun and you will hear the sweep of pigeons as they are let out in the morning and early evening for their exercise. They may well be training for races to Sicily. Some mornings you will hear the fish lady pushing her trolley up and down the street yelling her wares and you might even hear the ladies of village walking to church every morning for Mass. If you stay here you cannot help but be immersed in the local culture of the south of Malta.
the early days
It takes time to buy a property in Malta so we were not able to move in until July of 2004. After a day when both the electricity and water supplies failed we were ready to leave the day after arrival but as the history of that summer shows we stuck it out and really achieved rather a lot, more..
the house today
The house today is nothing like it was. We have spent the past three years moving it into the 21st Century. It is very possible that some of the fabric of the building has been standing for half a millennium or more. The work has been done by the family and local tradesmen in the present style of the Maltese; there is no attempt to emulate the present styles of the weekend papers, we merely wanted to make the house comfortable to live in and a place where the Musys and any visitors might feel at home. To see how it looks and feels today go to the present day page, more ..
