the house now
The house exists on two floors around a courtyard with a garden at the rear. All the 19th century plaster has been chipped off the walls by Charlie who then re-pointed them. Electricity and plumbing systems have been put in and the place is really rather comfortable in an outdoor sort of way. Every room has a door to either the courtyard, the garden or the upstairs walkway so you do not feel that you are in a house, more like sheltering from the sun until it is time to go outside again. We have purposefully kept away from using air conditioning for a number of reasons; no-one else has it locally so why should we be different, it eats power so contributes to global warming, and the house has been built over the centuries to provide a natural equivalent by use of thick walls, roofs and a shaft which gets a current of air moving through the centre of the house.
